LGBTQ+ Safe Spaces Protection Project

This long-term, multi-phase, and multichannel communications project included digital, print, point-in-place, media relations, and stakeholder relations collaterals.

I served as the lead editor and Communications SME for this project and managed the communications project.

Project Description

The LGBTQ+ Safe Spaces Protection Project is an AVP initiative to educate policymakers and community members about the threats of anti-LGBTQ+ violence faced by our LGBTQ businesses and organizations, what we call Safe Spaces.

Project Phases

Pre-Launch

During the pre-launch phase, we defined the visual identity for the project and created the initial collaterals for digital promotion, including logotype and color palette, social templates and graphics.

Launch & Survey Collection

During the Launch & Survey Collection phase, we created and distributed collaterals to engage audiences to take the survey and connect with the project.

Post-Survey Report

During the Post-Survey Report phase, we created the print report, point-in-place collaterals for report presentation, slide deck presentations, and social media awareness content

Creative Assets

Visual Identity

I worked with our internal leadership to define ideas and aesthetics for the look of the brand, and then consulted with an external design specialist to create a visual identity for the project including color palate and typography.

Signage

I partnered with an external design specialist to create these sign assets for our presentations at Creating Change 2023. I wrote the copy and consulted on design for the entire campaign.

Email

For this project we built a new email list and strategy to engage with LGBTQ+ Safe Spaces across the nation. As a New York City based organization, we had to do wide outreach to build our supporters list.

We developed a comprehensive print-ready digital report co-written with our data collection partners, Strength in Numbers Consulting Group. I coordinated the writing, editing and design of the report with internal and external stakeholders.

We coordinated 2 in-person events amplifying the preliminary data from the LGBTQ+ Safe Spaces report. We developed signage, print collaterals, and a slide presentation.

In collaboration with our political advocacy partners, The Raben Group, we held 2 briefings for White House officials in LGBTQI affairs on the Safe Spaces data, influencing future policy announcements on LGBTQ+ safety.
