Out For America
Out For America is LGBTQ+ Victory Institute’s signature annual census report on LGBTQ+ representation across the United States.
I served as the chief writer and editor for the 2024 and 2025 reports and coordinated the production, promotion and media relations for the report release during Pride Month.
Project Description
Out For America is a collaborative, multi-departmental effort that engages internal and external groups to produce, publish and amplify data on LGBTQ+ elected representation across the nation. In 2025, we launched a new engagement initiative with the report, the LGBTQ+ Political Power list.
Project Phases
Pre-Production
During pre-production, Communications collaborated with internal teams to collect and analyze data on more than 1,300 elected officials.
Production
During the production phase, Communications led the drafting of the report copy and created the web report, social graphics, and media release documentation.
Release & Amplification
During the release and amplification phase, Communications led distribution efforts across social, web, email and partner channels and coordinated media coverage.
Key Coverage
POLITICO – LGBTQ+ leader: Dems should talk about ‘kitchen table issues, not about identity’
AXIOS – Transgender representation in public office has skyrocketed
Creative Assets
Report
The report is a web-only release designed in WordPress using graphics and charts created with Infogram.
Digital Assets
I led our external graphic designer to create visuals for the report and a new design for our Political Power list

Local Activation
We sent a toolkit to the LGBTQ+ Political Power list, encouraging them to create posts and releases and share the accomplishment with their constituents, resulting in multiple social campaigns
